Senator Peter Welch (D-VT) is a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee including the Subcommittee on Intellectual Property and the Subcommittee on Antitrust, Competition Policy, and Consumer Rights. He sponsored the AI CONSENT Act, which would require AI developers to obtain opt-in consent from consumers before their personal data can be used to train AI systems, and the TRAIN Act, which allows content creators access to training records used for AI models. He has also cosponsored the AMERICA Act, which would establish transparency requirements and best interest obligations for ad tech companies.

Rep. Joyce is the Vice Chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, one of the most powerful committees in Congress with jurisdiction over nearly 75% of all bills that are introduced in the House. Of particular interest to DCN, the Committee enjoys primary jurisdiction over consumer privacy legislation. To that end, the Committee created a Privacy Working Group, heading by Rep. Joyce, to develop a federal comprehensive consumer privacy bill with the intention of moving forward with a bill at some point this year.
