Joshua Brandau is Chief Marketing Officer of the California Times, comprised of the Los Angeles Times, The San Diego Union-Tribune and a portfolio of community and lifestyle publications.
Brandau joined the California Times in 2019 and focuses his efforts on the Consumer and Brand Marketing, Ad Operations and Customer Service teams to grow the company’s audience and subscriber base, help support its journalism and the marketing and partnership efforts of its brand and media clients.
Prior to joining the California Times, Brandau spent the first 15 years of his career in consulting and advertising. His previous role was CEO of Brand Day Media, where he helped grow internal marketing teams and initiatives for start-ups and publishers. Before that, Brandau was the vice president, Head of Strategy in North America, for Essence Global and oversaw more than $1 billion in media spend.
Earlier in his career, Brandau spent seven years at Pereira & O’Dell, where he was charged with creating and growing the media and strategy teams and won an Emmy and multiple Grand Prix Lions in the process. Prior to that, he worked at a variety of advertising agencies in San Francisco, Minneapolis and New York.
