Briefing on SPUR Coalition from David Buttle

The SPUR Coalition was recently announced by 5 UK news organizations (FT, BBC, Guardian, Telegraph, Sky) with the mission of “shaping the rules, standards and infrastructure that enable publishers and AI platforms to do business.” Our understanding is that the Coalition intends to develop and shape technical and industry best practices among other initiatives with an overall goal of incentivizing AI companies to pursue licensing deals with publishers.

DCN will be briefed by David Buttle, founder DJB Strategies, an independent consultancy helping companies in media, information services, and adjacent sectors understand and respond to change.  Buttle is the former Director of Public Affairs and Platform Strategy for the Financial Times, and a board member at the Independent Publishers Alliance.

The DCN Legal and Legislative Committee's monthly virtual meetings summarize and comment on important policy, legal, and legislative news surrounding digital content.
