Rafael Urbina-Quintero is the Chief Operating Officer of ViX at TelevisaUnivision Inc., the world’s leading Spanish-language content and media company. In this role, Urbina-Quintero is focused on all business operations for the entire streaming business, for AVOD and SVOD, and continues his work managing the company’s digital business.
Previously, Urbina-Quintero joined TelevisaUnivision to perform as General Manager and Executive Vice President of AVOD Streaming to oversee the company’s broader streaming and digital portfolio, including all owned and operated consumer-facing properties such as ViX, Univision.com, TUDN.com, Lasestrellas.tv, as well as its slate of digital and social media offerings.
Under Urbina-Quintero’s leadership, TelevisaUnivision accelerated the launch of PrendeTV, the first streaming channels-based and VOD service created specifically for U.S. Hispanic audiences. Then, he led the merging of PrendeTV into ViX, the first global large-scale streaming service created specifically for the Spanish-speaking world.
As Founder and CEO of ViX, Urbina-Quintero led the acquisition of ViX by Univision in January of 2021. Urbina began his career in media at Multicanal-TPS where he spearheaded the introduction of multiple pay-TV channels in Spain and Portugal. In 1999, Rafael launched Planeta Networks, a pioneer in digital video, where he successfully oversaw a series of acquisitions and negotiated multiple rounds of funding for Batanga Media, making it one of the largest independent digital media and content companies for Hispanic consumers in the U.S., Latin America, and Brazil.
Urbina-Quintero resides in Miami, Florida, and graduated from University of Miami with an MBA and received a Bachelor of Law in Caracas, Venezuela.
