Ray Chao leads the podcast business at Vox Media as the SVP & general manager of audio and digital Video, overseeing growth strategy across podcasts and digital video. He led the acquisitions of Criminal Productions and Preet Bharara’s Cafe Studios; strategic partnerships with Longform, Gastropod, and MKBHD’s Waveform; podcast franchise expansions into video, subscriptions, and terrestrial radio; and talent deals with Esther Perel, Kara Swisher, Noel King, Sam Sanders, and Ariel Helwani. He was named to Forbes’s 2022 ‘30 Under 30’ and to The Hollywood Reporter’s 2022 and 2023 lists of podcast power players. He’s also on the board of Science Friday. Chao previously led corporate strategy at New York Public Radio and was a management consultant at Oliver Wyman.
